I am flipping through the TV channels when a talk show catches my attention. The host is a strange-looking guy with an Italian-American accent. He is talking agitatedly to a woman standing in the middle of the audience. I soon realize that he is claiming to be communicating messages from the woman’s deceased husband.
He is asking if she has been to Niagara Falls. She replies that she was just there with her daughter.
“Did you find a feather there?” he asks.
“Yes,” she says softly.
“Did you tell your daughter that it was from Daddy?”
“Yes,” answers the woman and starts sobbing.
I am watching “Crossing Over with John Edward,” a show with a psychic medium whose mission is to reconnect people with their loved ones.
I am stunned.
“Is this for real?” I wonder.
Then the old pain surfaces.
“Where is my father?”

At the end of the segment, a phone number is shown on the screen, and the announcer encourages people to call if they want to become part of a future audience. My heart aches for the opportunity. I grab the phone and retreat into one of the bedrooms. Sitting on the floor with my heart pounding, I dial the number over and over again, but I don’t get through.
